Republican New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu pinned the GOP’s underperformance in recent elections on former President Donald Trump, saying “the Trump brand just doesn’t work.”

“It’s about the former president more than anything,” Sununu said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “I’ve had school board members, Republican school board members, that have lost their seat because they felt like they had to constantly answer for being a Trump Republican,” Sununu said.

Trump’s negative influence on elections, Sununu argued, bleeds into local elections at all levels.

“It isn’t just the federal seats. It’s the governorships, the school boards, the congressional seats, all of them, especially in a place like New Hampshire where we can kind of get back and forth. We’re very independent minded. The Trump brand doesn’t work,” Sununu said. “It just doesn’t.”

It’s not “his brand” that the problem. It’s the republicans inability to have thier own platform that is the problem.

“OTHER GUYS BAD VOTE ME” Is not a political platform.

It’s fine they’re quietly subverting all of the lower level authorities while nobody is paying attention so that’s when they get arrested for the truth coming out the police chief will just let them go because he’s one of them.

Yep, similar to my thought. If you think “brand” is the problem here, not a demonstrated lack of morality with regard to the rule of law and the rights of your fellow citizens, you are just as bad as Trump.

For real. What happened to a normal conservative platform without any nutty conspiracies, racism, or climate denial tacked on?

Because the normal conservative platform, less regulation and lower taxes on corporations, leads to bad climate and systemic racism being unaddressed. It’s not a thing people want.

You can’t have a conservative platform without any of those. They will eventually lead to that. That’s why I don’t vote for moderates or conservatives unless I do not have a choice.

It’s not just Trump. It’s Roe v. I personally made a point to vote in any and all elections no matter how “trivial”. If you haven’t been adamantly opposed to Trump his entire presidency, I’m voting for the Democrat on the ballot.

I say this as a former Republican (pre-2012 really…I grew up, got smarter, more experience, etc and started becoming aware of how worthless, hypocritical, unethical and sad the Republicans had become). I voted Dem on a presidential ballot for the first time in 2016. I refuse to vote Republican ever again until they clean house. They are an embarrassment.

Everything that gets slapped with the Trump brand fails shortly after. Trump university, Trump Steaks, Trump casinos, etc, etc. its because he has no integrity and you have to be blind not to see it.

I mean… No no the Trump brand is powerful! Keep at it! Drench your entire platform on Trump!

they felt like they had to constantly answer for being a Trump Republican

Being a Trumpist / MAGA head is a warning sign that tells me: I don’t want this person to be in a position of authority and responsibility. In every place where one needs to judge on a persons character, this is an easy and obvious criteria for lack of moral and brains.

Even just being conservatives should raise eyebrows in a sane world. You can’t have conservative platform without racism, sexism, and so on, and attempts always lead down to that road.

That actually depends what is rated “conservative”. In my country, the US Democrats would be considered conservative, and the Republicans would be close to surveillance by the local alphabet soup for extremism.

The moderate wing of the Democratic Party do have some degree of responsibility when it comes to shifting the Overton window to the far-right, so yes, they aren’t to be free from criticism. And the Republican Party being so much worse. And Republicans are conservatives.

            And Republicans are conservatives.

In comparison to other conservative parties in the world, the Republicans are so far out right, they would rated “right wing extremist” in about any European country. The Republicans don’t conserve, they want to control.
