I have a desktop computer (running windows) and a chromebook (running xubuntu), and I’m looking to do this so I can use the desktop’s processing power to play games in bed
P.S. Some latency is fine, most games I want to play aren’t real-time anyways
You can remote into anything that has an IP address you can reach.
Were you thinking that Remote Desktop was wireless only? I’m pretty confused by the question.
See: Steam Remote Play, Moonlight, or Sunshine. Steam Remote Play being the easiest if you’re unfamiliar with networking.
Seconding Moonlight (client)/Sunshine (host) for in-home remote play.
I use it to couch play PC games from my beastie desktop onto my TV, and also my iPad. It works damn near flawlessly and allows for full remote input.
Much less laggy and finicky than Steam remote play/Steam link from my experience as well.

Based on that response, I’ve got a follow-up:
Were you hoping to DIRECTLY wire the two computers together with an Ethernet cable? Or do you envision both computers are wired to a router?
Still doable in either case, but the former would require some relatively simple additional configuration steps.
Wire them directly, but I ended up going with bluetooth (it’s latency was surprisingly low)
If all you are doing is playing games, then steam remote play will work fine. Remmina is a great rdp tool if you’re looking for a full desktop experience
Thats my setup (steam for gaming, remmina for everything else) and if you connect your monitor directly to the gaming machine, the latency is even good enough for FPSs
