The title is tethering on misinformation, it’s most likely “just” incidents that happened in France on that day, not the PSG fans turning violent.
It’s infuriating for me. Because all over social media you had people calling for “law and order”, basically saying police should use more force.
The french interior minister even called the people celebrating “barbarians”, which apart from being ignorant and problematic, also definitely had racist undertones since lots of the celebrations were coming from the poorer “banlieus” (immigrant neighbourhoods that are highly policed and have super high poverty rates).

I dug into the local newspapers, Sud-Ouest.
But the young man “died during the night from his injuries at Dax hospital,” according to the duty magistrate. “It happened during PSG’s celebrations, but the link, like whether it was fans, cannot be confirmed at this stage.” An investigation is underway and has been entrusted to the Bayonne PJ.

If it’s not a fan, but the incident happened at a PSG celebration, isn’t it still linked to the PSG victory? Saying that it’s completely unrelated to the match doesn’t seem correct either.
The headline speaks of 2 deaths, one of which is clearly and accident, the second that is mentioned we still don’t know what happened.
Before the post was seemingly taken down on r/soccer (again, likely due to the misleading title), the top comment mentioned it’s a small French town that mainly focuses on rugby, not football. Implying that it’s related to PSG shouldn’t be done unless more information comes out.
It’s obvious that the news headline tries to paint a picture that’s clearly inaccurate and written to agitate.
Okay, actually I reread the article again, turns out I wasn’t fully paying attention the first time. Sud Ouest even had a frame paragraph at the end of the article showing that the fact isn’t indeed related to the match:

So you were correct, sorry for the confusion.
I’ve been on this dirtball for several decades, and I can’t remember a single time when I looked at a crowd of soccer fans and thought “What a clever, intelligent, interesting bunch of people I would really like to mingle with.”
That’s a shame - a lot of us (most of us) are just perfectly normal people. It’d be a mistake to judge the many by the flaws of the few.
What’s an American not interested in football doing on here, and maybe read the article before commenting trash.
The person you reply to speaks French (I’ve seen them writing French a few times). Using “soccer” doesn’t automatically make you an American.
