I found myself down a YouTube rabbit hole once of people one-upping each other by making segmented displays with fewer and fewer segments and seeing who could use the least and still have it be decipherable for all numbers

There was a smaller subset that challenged themselves with 3 segment displays for 0-6

Here’s one I had in my YouTube history
I like the top comment here

at this point it’s honestly easier to read a row of leds displaying the number in binary

I found another one but I feel like it’s cheating since one of the segments is divided into two parts that light together.

It all started when I watched this video that was linked in the other comment, and then YouTube recommended more of them for days after that.

Only with a rectangular 8. Doesn’t work for a ‘real’ 8. This solves that issue.

watch the video linked in another comment. There are circle based 7 segment displays, if you realy need those curves.

i can see from how you did ‘real’ that 8, that i don’t need to remind you that there are no real 🖐️✌️🖕 :)

Pro tip for if you need to scratch out sensitive penned down text: don’t scratch it out, it’ll still be readable. Instead write other similar numbers and letters over it. Have a 9? Write a p over it, then use the circle for the bottom of an 8, then write a B over the p… it’ll be impossible to discern what the original letter or number was. Do this for all letters and you’re good.

I find setting fire to said sensitive text is usually pretty effective.

If that’s not enough, separating the ashes and sending them to different continents works pretty well too.

I made one of those a while back, I like it a lot, but I sort of like the idea of the numbers have a different vertical height, I may have to try @Wirlocke 's idea and do a 484 design.

It wouldn’t need to flip if you just make a symmetrical upsidedown 4 on the topside of the 8.

Arrange a high density led strip in this layout, the individually addressable ones. Then you’ve got a new digit display style
