The USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Assoc.) has a women’s division, further subdivided by the firearm type (e.g., carry optics, open, back-up gun, production, etc.). A number of people, including some people on the board, want to ban transwomen from competing as women. But… Why? What conceivable advantage would being assigned male at birth give you in a competition where shooting fast and accurately is the goal? Some women–Lena Miculek, for example–regularly crush men. Since it’s clear that women aren’t at a competitive disadvantage due to the gender they were assigned at birth–and may not be at a competitive disadvantage, period–what fucking sense does it make to force transwomen to compete as men?
I think one thing that is almost always missed in this conversation is that laws are not made to be fair. Most of them are made to restrict cool stuff for everyone because of a few shitty people. Being fair only sometimes happens by accident.
