Just reading up on these as the conservatives seem pretty right wing especially during this last election. Then I read the PPC description, they seem pretty similar at a glance. Did they have further distinction before and just recently some of the actors of the Conservatives become pushing towards the PPC ideals?

The PPC is just Bernier’s hissy fit after he lost the CPC leadership race. It looks very similar because Bernier was a core party member. The biggest difference between them is the quality of candidate the party can attract, and the amount of money it has. Because Bernier has trashed his reputation, he’s only been able to attract real wackos to run under his banner. But these are the same kind of wackos that have always found a less public-facing home in the CPC/Reform party.

The discussion in this thread is kinda shallow and weak. There’s a fair amount of overlap especially as the Conservatives have shifted further to try to reclaim some of their losses to the PPC, but you should be comparing their platforms not just taking peoples’ word.

There are indeed nuances, no surprise this community considers them the same, since they overlap in some “dealbreaker” ways for the average person here, but know your enemy…

This is like saying the NDP and Greens are the same, and arguably they’re closer than the PPC and Conservatives depending how you look.

When Harper merged the Cons with the Reform party the crazies took over and the historical Cons went under the Liberal banner

The PPC is essentially the same party but they have to lean into the conspiracy theories more to court the Conservative vote where as the Conservatives try to campaign like the NDP when they aren’t talking to their voters

Some are. Some aren’t. There’s really no other way to answer.

No political party exists as a monolith. They’re all made up of people on all points of a spectrum.

In the case of the conservatives, you still have some old school Progressive Conservatives hanging around, along with some Reform/Alliance party harder right conservatives. And even some Trump style MAGA type conservatives.

As someone has already mentioned, PPC didn’t split off because of idealogical differences, but because Bernier was pissy about losing the leadership.
