    Damn it.

A new report from Automotive News confirms Nissan has officially scrapped the plans for both sedans. According to a statement from Nissan, the automaker recognized the shrinking sedan market in the States and has decided to shelve both the LZ1F and LZ1E sedans for the Nissan and Infiniti brands, respectively.

The sedan market is not shrinking from lack of demand, you just can’t find any to buy. Automakers have just been making giant trucks and SUVs and those butt-ugly crossovers that look like shoes. I’ve been wanting an affordable, non shoe-looking, non-Tesla EV sedan for a good while now. My wait continues.

Polestar. BYD (admittedly very Tesla-esque). Ioniq. VW.

Are these not available in the US.

        BYD, definitely not available.

VW: Didn’t see one I really liked and could afford

Polestar: Yes. But PS3 and 4 are unaffordable. PS2 has some used inventory roughly within 300 miles of me for ~$30K so I guess they’re an option (though I haven’t done any research on them).

Honestly, we just have to speedrun vehicles that are so insanely large and so expensive that they physically cannot fit into most American cities/streets/parking garages.

Looking forward to our inevitable evolution towards eKei cars and ebikes, heheh.

Thing is, families don’t buy sedans anymore. There’s no way to fit two kids, two dogs, four suitcases and a kayak into a sedan. You need a shoebox on wheels. If you don’t have kids, you don’t even need a back seat. Why get a sedan when you can get a sporty coup? It’s a compromise vehicle that doesn’t do anything better than the alternatives.

In my day, that’s how kids were made. Plus, I do need groceries and stuff. The dogs also ride back there.

It’s a compromise vehicle that doesn’t do anything better than the alternatives.

It’s way more than a compromise vehicle. Decent mileage/range, not too large, not too small, fits 4 people comfortably, fits just about anywhere, doesn’t look ridiculous like the shoe-mobiles lol.

Looks aside, because that’s a matter of opinion, but you just listed several things that a sedan does worse than other options. An SUV or minivan (which is what most SUVs are anyway) is going to have more leg room and more cargo space, and unless you’re in the full size, they take up the same amount of room as a sedan. And if you want smaller and more efficient, why not go smaller than a sedan?

I drove both a Maxima and a Sentra in the past, and while they were great cars, I wouldn’t be able to trade in my Outlander for one today. In fact, I was driving a Chrysler 300 for a while when we were trying to save money and I had a longer commute, but I work from home now and I had to trade it in because it was functionally useless when trying to chauffeur the kids around.

I agree with you on the aesthetics, but I haven’t ever had the luxury of picking a car on looks alone. Might as well be talking about whether the gold or platinum rolex looks better with the dashboard.

I’d love to live in a world where I didn’t need a big car, where we could walk or bike four seasons of the year, where public transit is a viable option, but that’s not a thing where I live.
