A federal court has ruled against a Republican lawmaker from Maine who sued the state’s Democratic House speaker after being censured for a social media post about a transgender athlete.

    U.S. District Court Judge Melissa DuBose on Friday ruled against Libby’s request for a preliminary injunction to prevent the sanction.

    The court ruled that Libby didn’t have a strong enough case to block the censure in advance of the full lawsuit. The judge ruled that the case was not likely to succeed on merits, but further rulings will happen in this case as it continues.
