A handful of wealthy, politically connected Silicon Valley investors are reportedly eyeing Greenland’s icy shores as the site for a techno-utopian “freedom city.”

The entitlement is off the charts with this one. This land belongs to the Greenlandic people not to some ignorant billionaires who have no clue how life works up there.

Here we go again with techbros trying to build their freedom pods in some new, simple and innovative way, far away from the pesky government, only to inevitably find out that it doesn’t work this time either, because a) the government exists in Greenland too, and b) they massively overestimated their ability to innovate their way out of the massively underestimated conditions of the environment they tried to build their stupid city in.

I always like when they find the cheapest site possible, buy it and then realize it has no easy water access or lack of other stuff that’s needed. Which was why it was cheap in the first place. These problems are known and solved, but, being billionaire cheapskates, they won’t invest in it. Like you said, try to innovate and fail.

As long as every house is half a room big, has bars on the windows and its inhabitants use communal showers.

Great lets build them a secluded place in Greenland with smart home tech, all AI apps and only AI maintenance crew, doctors etc. Don’t worry Greenland, you can have it back in about a year’s time when they all kill themselves.

Wasn’t there a scheme to do this in Colombia a while back, but the guy in charge just disappeared with all the money?

Personally I’m all for techbros testing unregulated nuclear reactor in their backyards, but save that for the Arctic or something.
