They were never the best, they were just a flashy way to get into EVs. They did make electric cars sexy, but all models have been plagued with issues - and they’re getting worse.

This. The only good thing Tesla has accomplished is making EVs slightly more acceptable to the general public, causing the big automakers to take note.

Anyone else remember the “EVs will murder your babies” advertisment from GE? https://youtu.be/3g7cgUm7o9k

Edit: crap that’s not the right ad - but I can’t find the one I’m thinking of right now. It was similar with the lifeless shadows of kids and a baby stroller, but the car would drive through the shadows to somber music. Not exactly a great way to sell a new car.

Ah, yes. Tesla makes the best non-Cybertruck products with the following features:

-Door cards that fall off when you slam the door too hard

-Non-automotive grade monitors presenting yellowing over time

-Disabling and removal of key industry standard sensors for higher levels of autonomy

-Trunk lids that leak water into your trunk when you open it

-Panel gaps more inconsistent that Ferrari, except Tesla made no effort to ensure alignment after the fact

-Putting common and safety features behind a screen with no fail safe

That’s because the testing standards had not yet adapted to cars with such low center of gravity.

Or sedans that heavy. Because it’s a multiple of vehicle weight, while the raw number is extremely high for a sedan of the time, the roof crush score is actually pretty mediocre even compared to a Golf from the same year, it’s just so damn heavy the roof had to be stronger to even pass.

I’d never say these were even good cars. Sure they go fast, but that’s like the least important part of a car unless you’re 12. Reliability has always been bad and the fit and finish is straight bottom tier. I laugh every time I see one because you can see the panel gaps from a mile away.

Tesla never made some of the best cars you could buy.

They made an admittedly solid EV, with a cool shell (Model S), but they have kept making idiotic and dangerous choices:

      • Electric door handles
      • Tablet only dashboard
      • Touchscreen gear selector
      • Emergency door pulls require ripping off interior panels.

And more as described in this thread.

Tesla started the modern EV craze, I’ll hand them that, but stupid and arrogant choices by management ruined the reputation.

I have never ridden in a Tesla, and with how dangerous they are, I plan to never do it to the point where if I need a taxi, I will ask for it not to be a Tesla when ordering it.

The ones I’ve been in are worse than literally entry level Toyota or Ford or Hyundai etc when it comes to build quality and interior so you’re not missing anything.

I would never buy one. I know that much.

yup. the entire thing is a gigantic dumpster fire of lies.

original price? ha. try sixty thou more.

range? pfft, get a range extender that eats up the (ironic, I know, but physics) range and cargo space. oh wait they’re probably never going to release it.

bullet proof? nope, they crack in the sun, hailstorms and under idiot loads.

fuck the low poly edsel isn’t even carwash proof.

stainless steel exoskeleton? chortle, babe, it’s an aluminum alloy frame with stainless sheets GLUED ON

a single useless flopping dick for windshield wiper.

not even going to get into the software, or the poor bastard that did a u-turn and then had to use a steering yolk 15 degrees off center.

and the fuck-you-cherry on the shit sundae? Tesla got your money, and their entire service system is drowning - they aren’t going to fix shit in any kind of timely manner, and you probably would be better served pursuing lemon law responses if you were dumb enough to purchase recently.

man, tesla had a lot of potential - way to waste it all.
