Fun fact: the detergent packs are DRM’d, so you can’t refill them and you have to buy from the company.

Another fun fact: somebody made a “Bob Rewinder” that lets you reuse existing cartridges and fill them up with extremely cheap dishwashing liquid.

I’ve had that exact model for 4 years!

They’re very flexible in that they don’t need to be connected to a water source and so they can be moved easily and placed most anywhere.

They are small, so big pots and oven dishes may not fit inside. But it washes otherwise a decent amount of regular dishes if stacked efficiently (big on top of small, making sure to leave gaps for the water to reach).

Their soap system, at least at the time, it may be different now, didn’t make sense to me. You can order soap through the dishwasher directly and they send you their special soap cartridges. You can send back the empty one so they can be reused. I find this so wasteful, shipping soap containers back and forth.

I seem to remember receiving a soap tablet at some point, which is already better. But still having to ship it from France each time.

So mine is disconnected from the internet, and I’m using powdered soap. The cheap stuff that comes in the big container at the supermarket. After a few tests, I’ve found that a third of a tiny shot glass is all I need. Its cleaning cycles are also done with regular dishwasher products.

They have good customer service. If the dishwasher has an issue, they offer to send you the tools and parts and fix it yourself if you wish.

Now there’s the price. That dishwasher is not cheap. If this hadn’t been gifted to me I don’t think I would have been able to justify its purchase for myself. But of course your mileage may vary.

That’s my experience off the top of my head. I’ll update this if I think of more items after I’ve had my coffee.

Regarding the soap thing, your Bob should have come with a refillable cartridge that you can put your own detergent into and it’ll dose it out automatically for each wash.

Ah, maybe the new one does. I had to buy a small third party chip for mine that would allow me to manually reset it. And refilling it was not the easiest: I had to find the right kind of detergent and figure out the proportions of soap vs surficant, and then add them with a fine syringe.

Wonder if it has a childlock function? Those buttons are going to get pressed if a household has toddlers!

My wife’s nickname for me is Bob so this whole thread just feels weird to read. Like I’m washing people’s dishes for them and they’re sticking soap in me.

There’s a Scottish product that is similar that ships to the us. It’s called Loch. It doesn’t need proprietary washing soap. Also has a UV and produce cleaning function. I have one in my tiny house.

My outside garage doesn’t have water source, but an upstairs. This actually seems a perfect fit for that

I had the same with my old roommate and we really liked it.

A tip: we used all-purpose dishwasher detergent, squirting it into the dishwasher and leaving the soap thing empty, and it worked just fine! Much cheaper and more convenient than their own.
