I don’t know what they had in their original plans, but attendance is way, way, way down. So if they are closing earlier than intended, despite the snowpack, I guess it would not surprise me…

    Anyone want to guess why?

How much do ski hills rely on international travellers?

I don’t know those numbers, but over the years, I have to say I’ve run into lots of tourists from not just other states, but other countries.

I would think it’s fairly extensive. Hell, even if it was some very low number - let’s say 10% of the business is foreign and that suddenly slows to some fraction of what it was before - if you are a business, you are going to notice and you are going to feel that contraction.

I’m seeing stories about how Canadian air travel to US is dropping by like 70%. That kind of thing is bound to impact things like the skiing industry, too…

I’m sure that plays a role, especially for people that might have planned on booking flight, a place to stay and/or if they didn’t already have season passes.

But according to one of the workers, they are not seeing the amount of tourists from outside the country as they typically even earlier in the season. One guess as to who is to blame for that…it probably had a steep drop-off soon after Jan 20.
