Im annoyed that Doug Ford keeps making me hate him less, wtf? Can’t be sure its not bullshit but god I hope so
For whatever else he might be, Doug Ford is a very adept politician.
Imagine PP stamping his feet and balling his hands into tiny little fists, as a previously unpopular conservative premier outshines him.
I certainly don’t like Doug Ford, but the contrast in likeability is staggering.
PP can go suck a fuck!
non-paywalled link: https://archive.is/iI4OM
I don’t really see the point of linking an article that requires a subscription. Surely subscribers aren’t coming to Lemmy to find out when a new article drops.
apologies I actually meant to put the archive link in the post but seem to have forgotten.
As to why I would post a pay-walled article is simple; I believe if we want to continue having quality journalism in this country it is something we need to appropriately fund. We can’t rely on only the CBC (and not just because PP and the cpc want to destroy it). As far as I can tell this is original reporting from the Star so I do kinda feel it is morally correct to link to them first. (although I do not disagree with archive links for paywall bypass maybe that makes me a hypocrite… meh)
I feel its also especially important to fund the star right now as it is one of the last Canadian owned mainstream news outlets that isnt distinctly right wing (even if it is slowly drifting to the right imo) and isn’t ideologically driven (IE Press Progress, CanadaLand).
Thoughtful response. I’m actually all for posting both - having access to original sources is incredibly important, especially in this day and age. Also, while I despise paywalled or ad-heavy slop, I also am not a fan of clicking URL shortened links where what’s on the other side could be nefarious (and I certainly won’t be the first to click it.) And for the person that will say it… no, I don’t care enough to remember which ones I can always trust.
If your goal is to help Canadian Journalism, this isn’t how you do it. Get out and actually encourage people to subscribe to their paper.
