A driving factor is the rising number of women joining medical schools, the General Medical Council says.

Some 164,440 women are registered with a licence to practise, making up 50.04% of the register, compared with 164,195 men, the medical regulator said.

    Well duh. But why is there a rising number of women enrolling in medical school? That seems like an important factor in this change.
