Legislation pushed by Meta would share kids’ information with millions of developers without parental consent or rules on how it’s used; we have a better way.
So metas appstore would be resposible for all the pedo groomer shit going on in vr chat
Not like that!
- Meta probably
Honestly, I don’t want age signals sent at all. As long as I (the parent) can use parental controls to limit app access, that’s all that matters. Give users the option to deny ad personalization and that protects children from ad personalization. Companies don’t need to know anyone’s age. Meta is pushing for more data, but this feels like an underhanded way to take a middle road that gives Google more data (but not as much as Meta wants). We should take the high road and tell them both to butt out.
Or, y’know, simply make collecting data on anyone for the purpose of ad personalization, and the delivery of such ads, illegal, full stop. Penalize anyone found to be advertising on such a network, too.
(Hey, I can dream, right?)
Ya know…
Regardless of the truth/validity of this particular item (I’ve certainly no love for Meta)…
After a long run with Google, it strikes me a bit sad that I now find myself at a point where the phrase “Google says” causes me to instantly question the validity, sanity, and value of whatever that phrase is referencing.
Sad that Google has brought me to this point. “Don’t be Evil” has fallen a loooong way.
