    Because the groundwork existed and because they have legitimate fear for their people’s existence. The justification you often hear for the existence of Israel is the idea that jews cannot be safe without a nation of their own. The nakhba was a genocidal act done basically immediately after their own people had experienced genocide.

    And it’s worth saying that some very vocal opponents of Israeli actions here are Jewish.
