The final version of the agreement, dated February 24 and seen by the FT, would establish a fund into which Ukraine would contribute 50 per cent of proceeds from the “future monetisation” of state-owned mineral resources, including oil and gas, and associated logistics. The fund would invest in projects in Ukraine.
(…)
However, the agreement omits any reference to US security guarantees which Kyiv had originally insisted on in return for agreeing to the deal. It also leaves crucial questions such as the size of the US stake in the fund and the terms of “joint ownership” deals to be hashed out in follow-up agreements.
(…)
Ukrainian officials added that the deal was just a “framework agreement” and that no revenues would change hands until the fund was in place, allowing them time to iron out any potential disagreements. Among the outstanding issues is to agree the jurisdiction of the agreement.

People who want this war to continue: Putin, some of his oligarchs, Trump, and some of our oligarchs, also a bunch of dumbasses.
People who want the war to stop: Ukraine, a multitude of Russians, and most the world.
It ends by Russia leaving and paying to fix what the did. Sanctions for the next 50 years are a slap on the wrist. A proper send off would be for them to slit the throats of every oligarch involved. That includes Putin and now Trump. Their actions resemble rabies
Morons lol
Russia’s aggression is the only thing continuing this war, anything else you say is the dribblings of morons

well I mean if the original warmonger sees that he can get away with the war he started, he will keep doing this after this one is over too. I am saying this being fully aware of the fact that all powerful countries participate in war mongering one way or the other so it is indeed a self feeding cycle of frenzy.
I don’t think Russia can start shit somewhere else even if it wanted to.
It’s hard to make sense of these conflicting narratives. On one hand we’re being told that Russia sucks so much, they wasted all their good weapons, tanks, etc, even brought out the rust buckets from 50 years ago, etc, and if anything they’ve proven just how weak they are.
On the other hand we’re being told “oh no, watch out, they’re going to attack NATO next”. Well…with what?I think there is still a difference if Russia loses all that power for nothing vs it gets what it wants (mostly at least). But my impression is also that it has gotten significantly weaker in this war and this was perhaps Europe’s and UKs (and US initially) aim, that weaken Russia using a remotely controlled nation…
I want the war to end asap. All that’s required is for the aggressor to stop. Appeasement will mean more war because cost becomes acceptable.
This seems like a terrible deal for Ukraine. No guarantees and only obligations, not that you could trust anything Trump promises anyways.
But if it comes to it, then it is also a huge blunder by the EU imo. At this point it seems pretty clear to me that if Ukraine wants to achieve security and prosperity in the longterm, then it’ll only happen through integration with the EU. In that process Europe will have to bear most of the load, which however could also be a great opportunity. Allowing the US to swoop in like that and secure profits will make everything to come much harder.
Imo the EU would have plenty to offer aswell or could even strongarm Ukraine into choosing their offer (although this would be way less preferable), if it were to actually act according to its size. Anything from finally ramping up military orders by an order of magnitude and building capacities that can actually make use of the economies of scale, finally releasing frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, or even extending air defenses over part of Ukraine to lessen their burden.
Just pull a Trump and don’t honor your end of the deal
yeah, I agree. This is the correct answer.
Didn’t know what to make of this whole deal today. Trump cancels or retreats unilateral from agreements, and changes reality as it suites him. His signature on a deal means just as much as the values he holds himself accountable to: zero, zilch, nothing, nada.
Trump is playing a game, and the world is just playing along… In the end nobody can take him serious, but he’s still a very dangerous person.
*reading comments, guess most think in a similar way.
“Ukraine set to sign a piece of paper that outlines the concept of a deal, maybe, in the future”, sounds like a whole bunch of nothing.
It kind of is but it’s also something in writing. Trump & co are a product of an era where the show is more important than everything else. What happened here is about as far as they did with Russia, just set up some framework for future talks. Pretending to know meaning and intention behind this kind of theatre is futile.
They probably just did it to stroke his ego. He can now say he made a great deal, and Ukraine is hoping that Trump won’t be so hostile anymore. The US government is a real clown show.
The deal doesn’t really do anything. They are more giving Trump bragging rights by saying he “made a deal” hoping he will be more favourable towards Ukraine in return.
What does Ukraine get from the deal? This sounds very vague
“agrees” 😞🔫
This is definitely a deal you would not make…
If you sincerely thought Zelenskiy was a huckster
