Canada will send $5 billion in aid to Ukraine using funds from seized Russian assets, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday at a peace and security summit in Kyiv.

Trudeau made the pledge as he and a dozen other world leaders are in the Ukrainian capital to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion, where support for Ukraine to end the war on its terms and with its territory intact remained strong.

“This is not a conflict Ukraine wanted, provoked or asked for in any way,” Trudeau said at the summit table.

This is a war started for one reason and one reason only: Russia’s desire to erase Ukrainian history and expand their empire.”

[…]

“We cannot return to an era where might makes right,” Trudeau said. “We must do everything in our power to enable Ukraine to secure a just and lasting peace, a peace that cannot be achieved without Ukrainians at the table.”

Its such a shame he got overwhelmed with high expectations so quickly and just turned into yeah hes th PM, yeah hes okay but whatever. He couldve been and done much more.

It’s crazy, once he stopped playing politics he became a pretty decent politician!

No longer has to worry about re-election, so he can now make the proper call on issues

True, but polls show he also became more popular once he stopped making blatantly political moves (Carbon Tax exception for Heating Oil, etc) and started making “the proper call on issues”. It might just be a rally-around-the-flag effect with US tariffs & 51st state stuff, but I think it’s quite the coincidence!

It’s not the polls he’d worry about, it’s the billionaires funding his opponents. Now that he’s retiring, he doesn’t have to deal with campaign fundraising

Not the most familiar with Canadian politics, but isn’t that because he got thrown a lot of Trump-shaped low-hanging fruits?

As an addition: Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the UK also announced new sanctions against Russia at the start of this week.

Ukrainian troops firing at Russians with weapons purchased with money from seized Russian assets.

Bravo! This is why Canada is loved by other nations.

It’s also a HUGE “fuck you” to Trump and Putin.

    Slava Ukraini!

You can try the shape the narrative however you’d like but the world knows that Russia is not the good guy in this story.

Like every BS conspiracy theory, there is a kernel of truth, but it’s exaggerated to a comical extreme. Yes, like pretty much every country, there are some Nazis in Ukraine. The focus from pro-Russian propagandists has often been on the Azov Brigade which IMHO does seems pretty neo-Nazi. However, I also give Ukraine as a whole a bit of a pass because wartime isn’t a great time to de-Nazify and restructure your armed forces.

We as in US? There are several critical minerals the US can only get by importing.

            Yes, US.

I am pretty sure US over all has everything… maybe not lithium or cobalt but with rare earth, US could like invest in its own mines. But for some reason they refused to do that and now depend on china.

I am not an expert tho. but i don’t think it is the issue of actually having the mineral and more issue of refusing to develop local mines.

No you’re not an expert. You can’t make solar panels or fibre optic cables without germanium and the US has none. Just one of many examples
