A few years ago I would have been strongly against it. But now I believe it’s a must. But it is easy to say we need an army of europe that will help with Ukraines defense when I wont me doing the military stuff. I would certainly not want to serve in an army. I am doing a year-long civil service to avoid the mandatory military service in switzerland. How many europeans are willing to serve to defend europe’s borders?
It fucking sucks that this has to be a thing. But I think most people who aren’t ensnared in Putinganda will have to agree it pretty much is a necessity at this point.
Even barring the existential threat, a united army seems far less wasteful.
there’s a certain orange guy overseas doing things that might make this “Army of Europe” a necessity. and why not? I’m pro EU. when we work together on all levels, we can be a strong force. and that includes military.
l’union fait la force!
After the soviet union collapse many european countries just stopped caring. We don’t need soldiers or equipment anymore. Meanwhile in Finland, they kept their conscript service and bought more equipment from the bargain bins that were now available from other european countries. Finland has never been comfortable with the russians. Other Europe shouldnt be either. Time to gear up!?
I’d rather say it’s the exhaustion of 2 so-called world wars taking a giant dump on Europe and the countries within not wanting a third one doing the same.
But, when you gotta poop… you gonna poop.
Pure poetry
Considering what Russia did to some ex soviet states after the end of the soviet union (Chechnya, Georgia), the finns were very right to not trust their eastern neighbor
Ukraine?
Ukraine too, but Chechnya and Georgia suffered during the 90s, shortly after the URSS collapse and before Putin took power, a “taste of things to come”
After the soviet union collapse many european countries just stopped caring. We don’t need soldiers or equipment anymore.
As one of those Europeans who ‘stopped caring:’ I hate to say it, but me and my like-minded fellows, we were all wrong …
Although we never even seriously discussed giving up conscription, we Finns also made mistakes. Like cutting down the war time troop numbers from ~500 000 to current ~240 000 in the early 2000’s. It did seem like a moderarely reasonable action at the time, but luckily it will most likely be remedied sooner than later.
I sure fucking hope so.
Yes, and we could really use the Brits (and, not least, their armed forces) as part of a strong European Union.
Now that the UK has realized what a mistake Brexit has been it seems beneficial for both sides to commence reunification talks ASAP.
I’m afraid it is not just could but it has to.
Ukanie should release the deformed radioactive gigantic monster they have locked in the Chernobyl dome
Just turn the brain scorcher back on and point it east.
if it’s possible in America for some states to unite and create some form of awkward “USA” then : yes.

Think of all the canards we can put on things
Europeans do love to hoist their own canards
Leadership, ambition and determination is needed. Our leaders do not have plenty, but if they can gather enough we will continue to be an autonomous international actor, if we will not be relegated to a market -firing market for rivals not very friendly
