Hi, So I’ve encountered this problem for quite a while now: I am not able to see new or old posts on communities on this instance. For example: BuyItForLife Solarpunk memes (works for some extend?) Solarpunk I am a user of this instance and reading on the Thunder Client. Is there any solution already in place for such a problem? Thanks :)

Could you elaborate bit more: are there posts you see on the website that you don’t see on thunder client?

Could this be a setting in thunder client (e.g. hide read posts + mark as read on scroll)?

Could you tell me what is the last post you see on [email protected]?

Yes, 80% of the posts on the website are not visible to me.

Ive checked my thunder settings before. (Read posts are greyed out, but visible on all instances)

The last post on BIFL is the thread regarding hoodie recommendations. On the other hand, posts solarpunk (this community) are visible to me (somehow)

Ok I took interest and want to help you so I got into this, downloaded thunder and did some testing and my conclusion is that your issue is related to the lemmy/fediverse post/comment language settings. The hoodie post is the latest post on BIFL that is not tagged as english post.

Ill elaborate in a sec once I can reproduce your issue on thunder.

Edit 1: in the following screenshot from BIFL from the lemmy web UI you can see that the hoodie post is the only one with “undetermined” language setting:

The posts you don’t see are set explicitly to “english”. By default posts should be “undetermined” but communities/instances can change defaults.

I can’t fully remember the confusing logic of these content language settings, but ill report back once I play around with thunder for a sec.

Edit 2: I can now confirm that I was able to reproduce your issue and that it is indeed what thunder calls “Discussion language”.

Go to your account settings in thunder > Discussion language > make sure you have “undetermined” and also “english”. You should add other languages which you want to see.

I know. I hate how this works as well, but that has always been an annoying part of lemmy and fediverse :( you are probably not seeing any posts / comments that have a language set. Most of lemmy content is either undetermined or english though, so adding english should fix it for you.

        Hope this works out!

Yay!! No problem at all, glad to help :) and I bet quite a lot of people have struggled with that setting (including me the first time I made a lemmy account).

            Thank you, you too!! :)

That should really be pinned in account setup somewhere. This was a warning I saw when I first joined, so it was fresh in my mind when I started here, and it looks like it’s still causing difficulties, although it had slipped by the time I came across this.

I agree. It can completely ruin your first experience in the fediverse. I wanted to see finnish discussion when I first joined but couldn’t see posts/comments at all in those comms.
