Summary

X is blocking “Signal.me” links used by federal workers reportedly exposing issues at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

The policy, similar to earlier bans on competing platforms’ links, affects posts, DMs, and bios.

The change, first noticed on February 16 by cybersecurity researchers at Mysk, does not affect “Signal.org” links.

Users can currently bypass the block using URL shorteners or encoding, though these methods may soon be stopped.

Happy I’m on the Fediverse. This the exact shit we attempted to warn people about forever.

That was always the case with these guys.

Always. They don’t, and never did, give a fuck about free speech. They only care about seeing that THEY and their allies have unfettered access to a platform to say toxic things.

I really hope that governments adopt the ActivityPub standard + RSS whenever possible, and allow users to subscribe to these feeds from the instance or software of their choice.

I just got most of my friends and family on signal. I’m kind of scared of our government for the first time in my life.

Our government does not have our best interests in mind.

I have a feeling it won’t work to the same degree since all the otber platforms are also owned by Trump stooges.
