    It’s only an alternative if you can read said e-book on an actual e-reader with e-ink. A smartphone is not an e-reader.

      I am currently awaiting the arrival of my BOOX Note, which is a kind of Kindle alternative.

        Damn is that expensive though. But I think Amazon sells at a discount to make money on the bookstore.

    I have mix feelings about this, as while there are some DRM-free books, most are locked to the application.

    Meaning: you can’t give your book to someone after you’re done and if the app stops working in the future, your book won’t be available.

    I’ll rather have them call it renting than buying.
