There is a call to action here with a clear plan. Don’t just upvote, don’t just read the headline and move on. Take the five minutes to actually do something. Small actions like this can add up to meaningful changes.

Isn’t Musk Canadian from his mother? This is not “foreign” interference, it’s billionaire interference.

Does anything in the linked piece claim it’s foreign interference? The only thing I saw approaching that framing was the indication that Musk is based south of the border, and it was only once.

Mr. Perreault also politely scolded me by pointing out that foreign individuals have the right to share their views about Canadian politics.

Angus doesn’t push back on this.

Will do. I have also emailed my provincial premier, which I also suggest everyone also do. Contact your premiers, your MLA and your MP.

I don’t really see that as Substack supporting Nazism per se (though that is the de facto outcome), I see that as Substack supporting themselves, because they get 10% of all subscription revenue. They’re using a fervent belief in free speech to justify it, but they just want money. At the end of the day, they have very narrow content moderation policies, so things like this will be allowed to stay (and their subscribers’ money will be allowed to remain in Substack’s pocket).

For comparison, look to Instagram’s recent content moderation policies that allow for open Nazi rhetoric to remain on the platform. But ultimately, yes, it does seem that they are openly hosting content and facilitating payments for Nazis and defending that choice. I wonder if they’re in a financial bind or if they truly are that zealous about (nearly) unmitigated free speech on a private hosting platform.

No, they don’t support Nazis, they just didn’t question what they were hosting, and giving Nazis a platform. But being okay with getting paid from Nazi content is questionable at best.

For the record, what Meta is doing is also unacceptable. I don’t use any Meta products personally, so I haven’t seen the extent of the damage.
