I would have expected them to simply expropriate the house from him. That wouldn’t have surprised me for China. I mean, even here in Germany that’s not exactly unheard of if you are in the way of a large project that benefits the society.

I never understand the kind of mental illness these people have to not sell their homes. Usually compensation is well over the property worth.

You think it’s mental illness? Fuck off with this bullshit. The guy lived there first. You want to build a highway through my house, get fucked. That’s what I think about that. And if they seriously did this, I’d vandalize the fuck put of it.

Imminent domain is a scourge of a law, and shouldn’t even exist.

Yeah, they built around the guyd house making his life a nightmare. Imagine looking out your window and all you see is concrete. That’s what this is, it’s malicious compliance. He wouldn’t sell, so they built a 20-30 fo9t concrete wall around his house.

                This is not eminent domain.

An example of eminent domain would be the local government partnering with a judge to order the person to accept an offer on the land and home. That doesn’t mean that the offer is acceptable to the homeowner. It means that an offer was made that was accepted.

If the homeowner doesn’t accept, he is basically removed for trespassing, handed a check, and told to leave. There are specifics in the US, which are obviously different than China.

Could you explain how? They did not take his land, even after several offers, and instead built around it. Eminent domain they would just take the land, say this is what you’re getting, get lost.

Bullshit. I love my house. I’ve put an immeasurable amount of time, energy, and emotion into my property. Right now, it’s worth about $500k. There is no amount of money that the government, or anyone else, could offer me that would make me sell. I’m not exaggerating. They could offer $500M on my $500k house, and I’ll tell them to pound sand. A house isn’t just an investment; in my case, I couldn’t care less what it’s worth. It’s my home, and you’ll never pry it away from me while I’m still breathing.

I mean, with 500m, I’d just pay a company to pick up the house and move it lol.

With $500M you could run for office and scuttle the project, then enrich yourself far beyond your initial investment.

The area is a thing though. I own a small house in a lower middle-class hood. Despite not being in a well-to-do area, I love it. People aren’t snotty, there’s a mix of peoples, a dozen outdoor activities close, even within walking distance, on the edge of town without being too far from retail needs. I’d hate to leave.

Got me there! They’re already putting in a monster development in the woods. It’s far from all torn up, but I was sad as hell to round the corner of the trail and see that shit. Talked to a hunter who pointed out where even more is getting cut.

One good thing; Being a huge chunk of the local watershed I was worried about the ecology. They’re building the largest retention pond I’ve ever seen. Ever. Deep as well. We might actually seen an improvement in some animal populations, as long as the assholes don’t fence it off.

Left the best paying job of my life since I wouldn’t move. TBF, they needed my position available to come into the office now and again. They even offered $10K to move, just can’t do it.

Yall mf act like you live in medieval castles or 200 year old family estates instead of some 30 year old mass produced house that can be literally replicated anywhere in the planet. Get a grip on reality, seek out medication if necessary.

You seem to be assuming that everyone is living in a cookie-cutter house in the suburbs. I live on a rural property in a home that’s been renovated a few times but was built when my grandparents would have been children. We have spent more time than you can imagine improving the property and the house, and “adopting” as our own after what it probably a long line of homeowners in the past. Everything in my life that matters is here; my family, my hobbies, countless good memories. It’s more than an object, an investment, or just a place to keep my things; it’s my whole life.

There are very few things in life that truly matter. I hope that for your sake, you can one day find a home that matters to you the way mine does to me. If you do, you’ll understand why no amount of money is worth leaving. Money can buy a lot of things to make your life better, but it can’t buy happiness or fulfillment. Having even a multiple of what my property is worth wouldn’t come close to making my life anywhere near meaningful. I know exactly the place in the world where I’d rather be than anywhere else, and I own it.

I live on a farm that’s been in the family for a couple generations. It isn’t much, but it’s peaceful. Why are you raging so hard over this? Wherever this anger is coming from, I hope you get it sorted out. Such a weird hill to die on
