The framing of this as a difference of opinion or view bothers me. You wouldn’t use this framing for a math problem, “Partisans divided on 1+1=2” , because it perpetuates the idea that there are two reasonable sides. Media needs to start being more responsible in framing these findings, how about “Republicans more likely to be wrong about causes of extreme weather”.

Sure, but the media isn’t going to be responsible about this so long as it’s owned by the same companies that are profiting off of environmental destruction.

Shouting a plain absurdity is one of the clearest ways to demonstrate group affiliation.

Forcing others to be civil about a lie of existential proportions is one of the clearest ways to demonstrate power.

May be a difference of opinion based on news coverage. But the reality is regardless of what the news says, climate scientists are saying it’s getting worse and more extreme. Anybody in the U.S. who has been affected by air quality issues this summer from Canadian wildfires can tell you this isn’t normal. Or how about tue extreme heat in Texas, or Australia? It’s not a fluke.

In 2023, 87 percent of Democratic-leaning adults say extreme weather is becoming more severe, up slightly from 82 percent in 2019. By contrast, 37 percent of Republican-leaning adults say extreme weather is becoming more severe — ticking down from 42 percent in 2019.

Hey now, becoming a subterranean species is a completely viable way of escaping the heat!
