Translation: To stay on X or not? Some elected officials think of leaving Elon Musk’s platform.

What the article is saying is basically that a lot of the provincial MPs in Québec are thinking of leaving for something else. One of which, the health minister Christian Dubé, has already created an account on BlueSky.

We need to promote fediverse alternatives to our elected officials right now since everyone is worried about the control of information on Meta/X & Co.

Eh, split the difference and do it at the provincial/territorial level?

I dunno. Some provinces don’t have the same priorities. It would create inequalities.

The communication networks in this country have shown we shouldn’t do the one basket idea.

I do think every jurisdiction would be a bit much (infrastructure wise).

But setting up an instance for every prov/ter would be good if the feds also had their own.

There will be discrepancies across instances, but I think if they all federated, you could see a more coordinated effort to make things equitable for the country.

The concerns of northern Manitoba are not all the same concerns of southern New Bruinswick. But a person NFLD can have a better understanding of what people on Vancouver Island are concerned about.

I think the provincial model might have the most promise, but this is an inexpert opinion.

Of course! We’re just throwing ideas here.

If we’re going that route, maybe it would be worth having a Confederation of federated social networks where we could establish nation wide standards, recommendations for hosting, have documentation and a network of volunteers to help.
