You could look at it a number of other ways too. It could be:
It’s Cyclops’ inner dialogue
The narrator is narrating in time to his “NO!”s
Cyclops is the narrator
I dunno, I like it. Makes it feel personal.
Or the grief has driven him insane, allowing him to hear the narrator.
That was my interpretation. Kinda like Deadpool or, sometimes, the Joker.
