A Chinese actor who went missing Friday near the Thai-Myanmar border has been rescued unharmed by Thai police.

Xingxing was reported missing in the Thai border town of Mae Sot on Friday.

He vanished close to an area in Myanmar where Chinese people and ethnic armed groups affiliated with them run online scam centers.

So did the Thai police go into Myanmar?

Thai authorities conducted a rescue operation on the Myanmar side, coordinating with ethnic minority groups who control the area, according to Thai media reports.

I’m a little fuzzy, how is that not a act of war?

yeah normally it would be. those border areas are controlled by ethnic and private armies. and Thai police have contacts in the private and guerilla armies to get the actor out. Why do they have contacts? it’s likely the Thai police are paid off. they’ve been running drugs and weapons through the Thai border for decades (started with CIA running opium in the 50s for Chinese republican army occupying eastern Myanmar). If the Thais want to they can put serious dent into that trade. But they don’t because it’s HUGE business for their economy. I forgot the UN estimate for meth trade coming out of Myanmar through Thailand alone was tens of billions a year (30 billion?). Add opium to it.
