Steak and Butter Gal claimed her carnivore diet was cheaper than her vegan diet.

If she was telling the truth, which I think is unlikely, it could have been because she was buying more expensive plant based options, perhaps food items that were highly processed. On a calorie for calorie basis, plants are much less expensive than meat, unless, maybe, you’re eating only insects.

If her meat based diet was cheaper, it could also be because of all the ways that meat production is heavily subsidized, both directly and indirectly. Many of the costs associated with meat production are not accounted for in its price, like the “externalities” of GHG emissions, the inefficient use of finite land and water resources, and the depletion of nonrenewable energy resources, namely fossil fuels. Admittedly, many of these costs are not fully accounted for in the production of all food, including plant based food, but, with all costs accounted for, meat would be considerably more expensive, calorie for calorie, compared to most, if not all, plants.

It could also be, simply, that she’s a lying bastard.

It’s pretty clear from the few mentions of her positions in the article that she has at best a very superficial relationship with facts and the truth.
