In @[email protected], we provide a set of search engine choices. It differs a bit from country to country, but generally we have a nice set of search engines to choose from.
I would advice that you select one of the smaller search engines. They are generally better when it comes to privacy and you are supporting an alternative to Big Tech, although most of them get their search feeds from either Google or Microsoft at this time. That also means that switching from Google or Bing will allow you to get similar search results, while stepping away from Big Tech, so the switching cost should be lower.
So what is your favorite search engine?

@[email protected] @[email protected] If you consider the overwhelming majority of people who use Google search, this result unfortunately also shows what a small bubble we are in here.

Not a bubble, just a nice place. We must invite more people to join us.
@[email protected] @[email protected] I’d love to see a default option for @[email protected]. It’s been my search engine of choice for a year and is worth the $.
@[email protected] @[email protected] Google in 2002.

😅
Seriously though. I’ve had a good couple of years using it so far (search results, that is).@[email protected] @[email protected] I second Kagi!
@[email protected] @[email protected] The independent search index of brave is my favourite, Mojeek and metager notable other search engines.
Unfortunately searx instances seem to be regularly blocked by the index providers.@[email protected] @[email protected] Kagi. No ads, no spam and spot on results (and offers real useful filtering tools when needed).
@[email protected] I voted for Ecosia because that’s what I had been on for several years now but recent weeks I have been using Kagi as someone here gave me access to Kagi membership (Thanksgiving offer) and i tell you what its growing on me. When I was on Ecosia I use to occasionally search Google through incognito to get the result i was looking for but I no longer feel the need! Kagi is good, really good!
@[email protected] @[email protected] I have three favorites, but Google and Bing are NOT among them!
@[email protected] @[email protected] Startpage for primary (better Mandarin search result) and secondary DuckduckGo
@[email protected] @[email protected] I selected DuckDuckGo, but I try to use Mojeek as much as possible. I think Europe should have its own search engine, and stop relying on the American Big Tech. But I do prefer DuckDuckGo :)
@[email protected], @[email protected], what do you think of Monocles (monocles.de)? It is an EU based search engine.
@[email protected] @[email protected]
I am not familar with it.
@[email protected] You left out Kagi.
There is only room for that many choices, which is why I included other as well.
@[email protected] @[email protected]
I use Brave Search, which is not included per default ☹️#Windows #Macos #Linux #Android #iOS #Computer #mobile #search #BigTech #Vivaldi
@[email protected] @[email protected] It is also great to configure own searches with search parameters for the context search in the settings (sorry, screenshots with German text).
