Hi, I posted something in the Quebec community on Lemmy.ca recently and one of the replies had someone write in French with the word r.e.t.a.r.d. being deleted from their comment.
That word means “late” in French and is not a derogatory word.

I’m not accusing anyone of anything here. This could be a built-in feature of Lemmy or something.
I can’t blame anyone for trying to reduce hate speech and discrimination online. I don’t think blocking words is the right way to do it, but then again, this is all community and volunteer based. The admins can’t spend their whole day reviewing reported comments and posts either.
If only people were a little bit more respectful and tolerant.
This is indeed a feature of Lemmy, activated by default

Lemmy.ca’s admin probably never changed the default values. I noticed it a while ago too but forgot to notify it, thanks.
Edit: also don’t bother too much with the other commenter, they have MAGA in their bio

" this is all community and volunteer based. "
that does not mean it’s right
“If only people were a little bit more respectful and tolerant.”
but to let free speech run wild
hoping people would be different leads to authoritarianism and censorship
Oof, that instance is going in the 🚮
Thanks
I appreciate you
Thank you for that!
