Is this actually coming from valve or is it some “journalist” just spewing bullshit
It’s just some journalist speculating from the leaks. I did the same thing in middle school
I have a gaming PC, a Steam Deck and a PS4. But I’ll buy a Steam machine in a heartbeat.
Same. Currently missing a good way to make my Steam library available in the living room.
I still use Steam Link for that. The little physical box. They still support it.
Moonlight also still builds for it, you can get it from their GitHub, extract it to a fat32 usb drive and boot the Steam Link with it connected.
Moonlight + Sunshine are the goat. My private cloud gaming.
Meanwhile I just plug my PC into my TV and compute from the couch. Keyboard in lap, mouse on endtable or armrest. It’s ridiculously comfy.
Any old mini PC will run steam link.
I used an Nvidia shield with moonlight but it keeps crashing on me as of recent. But a new standalone solution would be sexy.
I had actually assumed they stopped supporting it so I kept mine unplugged for a year or two. Turned it on the other day on a whim and was surprised by having to wait on a new update.
SFF PCs be like:
Alternatively Steam Dock be like:
Haha ok ok. Maybe I just want something new and shiny from Valve.
Yeah but controller options are limited, the Steam Controller is expensive used and there isnt a replacement.
You can use any controller with a steam deck though. I use our ps5 controllers to play cult of the lamb with my husband and I have a wired Xbox controller I’ve used as well. Both work flawlessly.
You can use any controller but imo none feel as comfortable as the original steam controller in my larger hands, also the touchpads are nice.
Alternatively steam link / moonlight
I have had problems with the official dock so I got a cheap third party replacement and it has been flawless.
What problems
It quite often didn’t recognize the HDMI output so I’d have to try all kinds of things like rebooting and unplugging/replugging until it would finally output to my screen. Also had some trouble getting it to start charging a few times.
Like this guy on r*ddit?:
For everyone having this issue, try plugging in the deck to dock with only the HDMI plugged in and no power cable. This worked for my TCL TV. Once the screen screen shows on the TV, you can plug the power cable back in and it should still work

Wow that might have helped actually. My third party dock never needed any troubleshooting like that though so I’ve stuck with that.
Sunshine on an Nvidia Shield. Perfect for everything I use it for
I got a cheap third party stand/dock and use my Deck more in the living room than I do portably now.
I installed arch with steam and gamescope. Its just like the steamdeck as a pc. You already can have this right now.
Sure. Or you could use Bazzite. But I want something I don’t have to faff around with, like the Steam Deck. Plug it in and start gaming. That’s the selling point. If Valve can achieve that, make it perform well and be affordable, they have yet another goldmine.
There is no master plan. They’ve started this project and scraped it multiple times. They’ve fired the entire team multiple times, even sold the team the tech once.
Steam Controller 2 and Deckard are the only things I want from them
