I don’t always have paper handy, and since a lot of people use Lemmy on mobile it might help to have some recommendations linked in the sidebar.
- Android, iOS, or both
- FOSS or non-FOSS
On android I use FOSS Pocket Paint!
- Fdroid: https://f-droid.org/packages/org.catrobat.paintroid/
- Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.catrobat.paintroid
Edit: good post, I’ll add a link to this post in the sidebar when I get home!
Edit2: added it to the sidebar. Hope we can get some people on iOS to give recommendations as well
Thanks :)
For iOS, I’ll ask some friends and see what they recommend
Edit:
I got a recommendation for the built in notes app, using the draw feature
Holy crap, pocket paint is SO GOOD. I was using simple draw before, which didn’t have the zoom window to see where you’re drawing, or layers, or a good UI.
Absolute game changer.
I was also impressed by it!
In case you are interested, I found it in this list I use to find nice FOSS app recommendations: https://github.com/Psyhackological/AAA?tab=readme-ov-file#Introduction
On the FOSS Android side
- https://github.com/SimpleMobileTools/Simple-Draw (no Fossify version yet from what I can tell)
- https://github.com/T8RIN/ImageToolbox (Create > Draw > Draw on Background)
I’ve been using FreePaint from F-Droid. Not sophisticated, but exactly what I was looking for.
I use ~a cracked version of~ IbisPaint, it’s available in many platforms, but it’s not FOSS. FreePaint (F-Droid) kind of works, but you need to have in mind that it doesn’t opens saved drawings, sometimes it restarts, and if you JUST TOUCH the screen, it crashes.
Krita is cool if you have a big screen. Also hand-taking note apps can work for the simple ones.
