    Free condoms for rapists

Instead of regulating out of control businesses we’ll take a cut at the federal level so people can afford the gouging.

Restaurant meals, whether dine-in, takeout or delivery.

I’m of the opinion that anyone who can afford a restaurant meal + tips, shouldn’t be getting it tax-free.

Snacks, including chips, candy and granola bars.

These should be taxed MORE, not less.

Beer, wine, cider and pre-mixed alcoholic beverages below 7 per cent alcohol by volume (ABV).

This should be taxed MUCH MORE!

I do appreciate some other items included on the list. But there are certain things that should’t be easier for people to waste money on and cause harm to themselves or others that will cost taxpayers even more down the line.

So the Liberal Party of Canada is the new Conservative Party then. Slashing taxes and giving cheques to everyone to buy votes. Playing the exact same fucking game as the Democrats by trying to appeal to conservatives to get their votes.

Taxes are what pays for our social services and social safety nets. This is going to come back and bite us in the ass eventually. If anything we need to increase taxes on companies and the super wealthy, and finally plug those fucking tax loopholes.

By the way, the CAQ did the same thing in Québec. I donated my cheque to a local food bank.

The part that makes it feel like vote buying is the income limit they set. A person making $140k getting $250 doesn’t change their life or relationship with groceries and rising costs. Why not make the cap lower and give the lower income individuals more to make an actual difference in their lives? Because then it’s not vote buying.

I believe they said that even families with $140k income are struggling. Believe that if you want, but they aren’t just sending out checks to people who wouldn’t benefit from it.

But I get your point. It impact lower-income families far more than someone making 2-3 times more.

“Our government can’t set prices at the checkout but we can put more money in peoples’ pockets. That’s going to give people the relief they need. People are squeezed and we’re there to help.”

No, but they can take a firmer stance on price gouging and monopolies. At least the NDP is trying to get it pushed and opening the discussion.

Lol this is just a joke… Food should have always been completely tax free! Two weeks?!? What kind of circus is this?? Is he trying to buy votes for $250/pop? I’m amazed at what they come up with next.

Real food is… beer and candy always has tax on them, and rightfully so considering the burden they cause on our healthcare system.

Yes, I agree on the alcohol tax re. Healthcare costs. However, I ferment my own drinks and I’d like to point out the irony of buying raw ingredients + yeast, vs buying a prepared drink. It’s like you are getting taxed for convenience as a deterrent.

That’s not a bad thing, though.

I’m sure someone can grow their own tobacco, dry it, process it, roll it into cigarettes, and smoke it. But going to a store and buying a carton is super easy. Tax the hell out of the latter, because that would deter everyone but the most hardcore death enthusiasts. And the burden to our healthcare system is going to be from those who are buying out of convenience.

2 months, from Dec 15th to Feb 15th. And yes it looks like he is trying to buy some votes. And the check is for people doing 150k$ or less NET, so in QC almost 300k$ gross, as if people doing 300k need a 250$ bonus…

Yeah, why set an income limit at all if it’s 150k… would be more cost effective to just claw it back in tax from top earners later.
