I joined up here from the other EV communities on Lemmy because it seems some consolidation is going on. Now it’s looking like there’s a ton of posts all from one of the mods and it’s literally overtaking my feed.

For example, the top “hot” posts are here are SIX in less than an hour.

I’m all about getting the community active and all that, but is this really the best method? Spamming links to Elektrek or Cleantechnica doesn’t really spur much conversation. Is it possible to just slow that roll of link spam and work on fostering more discussion?

Yeah, personally I’d like to see fewer, more substantive posts. There’s not really a lot of comments per article

Thank you for listening and having a willingness to change things up. SOME links are fine here and there. The firehose is too much.

Sounds good. I commend your enthusiasm in posting, but I think we might want to slow it down a bit. Lemmy is a primarily a threaded discussion platform, not an RSS feed.

We have an influx of new users, but we need to encourage commenting.

I think as a general guideline, we might want to aim for something like:

      • No more than 50% of posts from a single user
      • Comments on at least 50% of posts

Tagging @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] for their thoughts on this.

      Any tips on fostering discussion?

I think it’s important to remember that there’s no karma here. Post what you’re interested in and willing to engage in discussion about as a rule of thumb. Also try and stay away from announcements, like "Brand X announces they’ll come out with Car 2000 in 2026 as there’s generally very little info or anything to talk about. There are of course exceptions, but I’m just talking general rule of thumb. If there’s a BYD enthusiast, they’ll of course post it, but it’s fine, because they’ll reply to every comment. The key is to let your posts reflect you. Articles are fine, but people are better.

None of the yous were referring to you specifically three 😂

Those are good ideas for the community. We definitely need more comments to make the posts more interesting.

I will be limiting myself to 3 posts at a time.

IMO there is a mismatch of users and articles posted. I assume most users are from the US and according to the IEA only 10% of Global EV sales are from there compared to 25% in Europe and 60% in China. This is the same issue you see in reddit on /r/electricvehicles , /r/cars or even /r/android.

This community is for all discussion about electric vehicles. Different posters will have different ideas as to what makes a good post. A lot of the time, I will pass over articles because I’m not particularly interested in any discussion they may spur nor do I think people particularly care. But other posters will have their own ideas. I think as things settle down, we’ll see more personalities come through and everyone will rein themselves in a bit, but they need time to settle in and get comfortable.

Which is all great. And I agree people will post at different times, but it’s quite excessive lately and at least for me, doesn’t make me want to be a part of this community. If I wanted every story from Elektrek or Cleantechnica, I could just visit those sites.

When I said that I will pass over articles, I meant see articles in my RSS and decide not to post them. I totally understand your frustration and exacerbation and ask for you to have a little patience. I will pin this so the process of posters being more picky about what they post is expedited a little.
