Absolutely heartbreaking. Seeing where this crash took place, I can only guess that the driver failed to stop and ran right through the cross-ride.
Throw the driver in jail
Ontario would rather blame the victim, punish cyclists, and remove bike lanes so that cars can blow through stop signs without killing anyone.
I’d put a sarcasm tag at the end of that, but the reality is that our Government doesn’t believe that lives matter unless you’re in a car.
We had a young girl killed while riding an e-scooter last year. Similar situation to this (driver went through a stop sign), but do you know how Oshawa reacted?
Some council members wanted our e-scooter rental pilot “suspended” (cancelled). Ultimately, they forced the rental company to geo-fence off that area, which is a fairly important route to get to some critical destinations (high school, grocery stores, actual cycling infrastructure north of Taunton Road).
I will add that no modifications to that particular stop was done to prevent this from happening again.
Punish riders, and coddle drivers.
Throw the traffic engineer in jail.
Even better, throw those that created the mandatory guidelines that the traffic engineer is obliged to follow I’m jail.
Even better, don’t just throw people in jail a d have the fix the shitty infrastructure instead.
