If it was leftist tyranny, we would all get equal access to pet squirrels if we want them or not.

Fascism is denying squirrels to those who want them because the state has decided you can not have a squirrel.

The thing is that this looks like fascism, but for a different reason. The place that got their animals taken away was a legally licensed, insured, and recognized wildlife sanctuary, and the reason given was “we need to test them for rabies” despite the animals showing no signs of rabies infection, nor any incident occurring which would require those tests.

The whole thing reeks of some sort of petty local dispute with the PD.

Was licensed as a domestic shelter, wildlife is a separate license. He never registered the squirrel. He released it once and it came back with a broken tail and he didn’t take it to a vet and then he kept it for 7y and used it for online performances to get money.

Just like always headlines twist the narrative and no one looks at facts.

I mean… That is not really what was puzzling about mercury. Its elliptical orbit, as predicted by Newtonian physics, was shifting a little each orbit. It was not a trick of the light bending, it actually moves “wrong” according to newtonian physics. He could have just read wikipedia instead of making stuff up to try and sound smart. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tests_of_general_relativity

I wonder if it’s a case of trying to make a habit of good practice. I’ve gotten into the habit of citing stuff when writing online, even if the context wouldn’t really demand that (or slapping a [citation needed] onto the end of stuff I know I could cite, but I’m too lazy to do and I want it known that lack of sources mean my assertions are questionable)

And as I understand it, the existence of an inner planet (Vulcan) was a reasonable explanation consistent with Newtonian gravity. (The only problem was that the planet wasn’t there.)

Stupid people don’t know how stupid they are. They reject the very notion. It’s how one stays stupid in a world with all the world’s knowledge at our fingertips.

Turns out access to knowledge was not a threat to the leaders in history. The very idea they were concerns may be oversold.

It’s easy to assume that everyone that disagrees with us is stupid, but I can assure you that’s very much not true.

I’ve seen otherwise very intelligent people lost down the rabbit hole of right-wing fuckbaggery. I think it’s often just a slow burn from social media. I saw a video earlier today about an ancient tool for spear throwing, and was immediately afterwards presented with a video about how the new Dragon Age game is ruined by DEI…

And the saddest thing is, most people on the extremes have started at the same place: An unhappiness with their own life and a search for a solution. They’ve just ended up at vastly different positions, in that the right has chosen to blame the nebulous “others” below them, while the left has chosen to blame the “others” above them. And punching down is always an ugly look.

I think that’s a different discussion.m. We can make excuses all day for how people end up with extreme views. It doesn’t change anything. The reason it occurs is part of human nature, a weakness that one has to choose to overcome on a daily basis or not. Choosing wrong too often and there might be no way back.

I find this most evident in people who suddenly shift right when they end up in some sex scandal, they move towards the group that is most forgiving of such events and lose themselves in the shift. Russel Brand and Musk are two examples.

Knowledge seeking for the sake of knowledge seeking is something totally different. It requires accepting one knows nothing and despite all the knowledge gather now knows less. It requires a humility that can be uncomfortable.

Few end up adding significant new knowledge. Those who do maintain a humbleness as the recognize the efforts who came before them.

Those who pretend become exploiters, it takes little effort to reveal their search was only ever for loopholes. Those people are another form of extremist.

This news breaks, both leftist places and far right places get pissed off, but for some reason far right places think leftist want this….

This is actually a big problem when it comes to polarization. Right wing idiots think anything unpopular that they clearly don’t stand for HAS to be supported by “the radical left”.

It’s right out of the fascist playbook, blame all wrongdoings on your current scapegoat group.

Minus the “leftist” part of his argument, his assumption is correct. Reasonable laws and measures can be abused by power to oppress the people. Give the government an inch of power and they will take it a mile.

Using grounds of “preventing the spread of rabies” authorities invaded this man’s home and killed his pets. Keep this in mind whenever giving the government any power. It is clear trump wants as much power as possible, even complimenting Hitler’s generals for their loyalty and obedience.

Dude needed to get his wildlife handler paperwork or shut the fuck up. He claimed he was getting it repeatedly and there’s evidence he did fuck all.

He got his animals killed by failing to adhere to the basic laws he already knew about. It wasn’t a surprise.
