The fact her label takes a cut of her live shows(/merch etc), no matter how fucking awful the music might be, is just fucking sickening. Live shows used to be why bands like The Rolling Stones existed for so many years. And how they actually made their money.

She might not get great cuts from her career music at the end of the day. Most artists - even big artists - only really get paid through performing (+ merch at performances), and performing is hard work that must be done in real-time. And the larger the team involved the less the performer gets paid.
NFTs would typically involve some minor profit distribution, but they can be purchased 100x a second for 24 hours a day without the performer lifting a finger. Unlike CDs, they can be set up so that she gets a % of each resale, too. I’m not advocating NFTs I’m just saying it’s the reality.
It’s not all that rare for a successful artist to make their first million or two from art, and then leverage that success to the point that the art becomes a relatively minor revenue stream. Either through financing or using their likeness to launch a business that they make a much higher share of the profit from.
Using your brand to profit from an NFT business would be a prime example of the latter. And hot NFTs have insane liquidity. I assume algorithms are the main reason why.

Is it? I mean it’s niche but it’s not technically incompetent or anything. I used to listen to her music all the time before knowing anything about her personality. She’s pretty good at drawing cool synth noises out of a Roland Jupiter.
Most people are pushed away by her voice. She does this breathy almost falsetto lispy thing that’s kind of annoying.
I mean, there are one or two songs that are good, but her big thing was kinda pre-staging the actually great artists that would come out afterwards. But even then, stuff like Crystal Castles (specifically Alice Gao), A.G. Cook (P.C. Music production in general), and a whole other host of artists were far more directly responsible for the pre-staging the huge take off of what would be called ‘hyper-pop’.
Grimes is fine, maybe even above average, but definitely overblown.

I think she uses a Jupiter-8 in her first few albums. Those are full synthesizers with ADSR controls and an LFO bank, but she might have been using presets, who knows.
I guess it’s still a matter of taste though because I’ve always thought her music is above average.
Oh I’m not saying they cant be edited (I’ve used one a V-E-R-Y long time ago). I’m saying its not like modular or FM where you really need to know the dynamics of cross modulation and rerouting.
