A brand of yogurt sold at Costco has been recalled due to mould, says the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

The federal agency’s notification affects 24-packs of Greek yogurt under Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand with the best before date of Aug. 10, 2024, marked as “2024 AU 10.” The printed UPC code is “0 96619 22215 5.”

The agency says the microbial contamination is not harmful, though stores and consumers are told not to use, sell, serve or distribute the affected product.

One of the nice things about Costco is that, because you scan your membership when you buy, they’ll know if you bought these and you’ll get a personal letter very shortly.

I’m not a fan of Canadian grocery in general, but they’re the best by a wiiiiiiide margin.

Wow, we’re getting some terrible food safety stories lately. It’s almost as though capitalism leads to cutting costs and corners in ways that aren’t good for society.

If you still have Best Before Aug 10 in your fridge I don’t think you would have wanted to eat that anyway.

I’ve eaten past-the-due-date yogurt before - as long as it’s still sealed. Same for sour cream (but I make my own now, which has a much longer fridge life than store bought).
