I have been playing this adorable little game for the past few evenings. It is Playstation only but it’s completely free since they’re giving away the base Dreams game as part of Playstation Plus this month.

The levels are all based in a large attic filled to the brim with nostalgia-- think old toys, classic computers, portable cassette players, etc. It’s so cute AND the gameplay loop is fun!

From the very first moments you can tell that that this thing was lovingly crafted. I highly recommend it!

This would be a game that can survive really well if it was ported to PC and supports user server.(to host their collection of dream projects.) Instead, it probably not gonna last for very long following similar treatment to PS3’s little big planet when player count taper out.

It’s really good prototyping tool as well for people wants to dip in to game dev. It’s more complex compare to say Mario Maker, but less overwhelming compare to using unity/unreal engine. And you already have all sorts of project asset template you can copy from.

I’d imaging some future gamedev actually started by making dream projects.

I think Dreams would also have done much better with a major underlying game instead of advertising itself as effectively a game engine you can’t profit from. LBP, Mario Maker, Halo, Far Cry, and others have an appeal to them because they’re complete titles that people enjoy, but have level editors (or are the level editor in the case of Mario) that allow players to easily express their creativity given the rules and assets of these games. I haven’t ever launched Dreams, but I’m over the moon waiting for Restitched. Brings me back to the days of waiting for my LBP pre-order to release.

Dream does have those (pretty extensive) tutorial and “from MM” levels but they are not a bundle experience like LBP.
