Hey fedi-bikers!

I need help finding good hydraulic disc brakes with flat-mount calipers for my Specialized Sirrus 3.0.

It came with Tektro HD-R280 front- and rear flat-mount calipers, but I’m not quite satisfied with the stopping efficiency. I’m used to a lot more from years of riding my previous MTB which featured Shimano post-mount calipers.

The guy at the local bike shop explained to me that the factory Tektros were actually quite mediocre calipers, so I weren’t to expect anything near to approximating the stopping power of my MTB’s Shimanos.

So far I’ve identified these flat-mount Shimano models:

  • Shimano SLX BR-M7110
  • Shimano XT BR-M8110
  • Shimano XTR BR-M9110

… but most sites that have them in stock offer just the calipers, and I need the whole front-, or rear- or both sets, including calipers, pads, levers, hoses, adapters (if needed), because if I purchased just the calipers, they most probably wouldn’t be compatible with what came with the factory equipped Sirrus 3.0.

I’d be grateful for any suggestions, and links to online shops (Europe-shipping preferably) where I can order the whole set from.

Thanks!

To ensure compatibility, you said you had a local bike shop… you should probably go there and get your brakes swapped with whatever you’re excited for, that they can order in.

    Plus, support local, of course.

Nah, that’s the first thing I did - ask them for a swap. They:

      • Only offer post-mount calipers
      • Wouldn’t suggest a swap to me, because I bought the Sirrus 3 from them and it is still under warranty.

Their stance is basically - ‘If you come back with a brake set, we’d swap it for you, but we can’t suggest a replacement’

Well, I’m sorry to hear that, that’s kinda wild. I’m not a mechanic, and not deep enough into bikes to tell you what to get.

I’m sorry for wasting your time.

Not at all, mate! Honestly - it’s not like I’m getting an influx of comments that I’d have a hard time keeping up with. :-) Thank you for jumping in.

When I was shopping for brakes, years ago, lots of told me SLX has all the quality/power of XT or XTR but they’re a tiny bit heavier and don’t have the prestigious badge. I went with SLX and have been very happy.
