Only 4 nuggets, and holy hell if that ain’t a joke for a drink size! BTW, that’s supposed to be sweet tea, but it’s bitter as hell…

That drink would be a medium size in Germany… Drink sizes is the one thing we do right I think.

Sizes yea maybe for soda, but y’all charge for water and then give it to you in a tiny ass (relative to water anyways) cup.

At least here the cups may be gargantuan, but you’re free to fill it with water and ice for free

That’s nice they’re legally forbidden from denying you life saving water, but tap water is ass (even if it’s perfectly safe to drink) and should be drunk when you have no other options, not as a pleasurable drink to have with your meal.

And last time I was in Germany (admittedly years at this point) I got free water, but was charged for Ice! That’s not my idea of a good non-sugary drink for your meal, ass tap water that might be a little colder than room temp…

Here the free water is well filtered as it often comes from the soda machines own filtering system

There’s a lot to like in the EU, but the whole water/ice things has always irked me. It’s honestly baffling. You want to discourage people from drinking sugary drinks like soda, but then you make the best alternative, a nice cold glass of filtered water, like some sort of luxury item

Tap water in Germany is perfectly palatable and unless in some large cities, even tastes nice. In fact if you buy bottled water in the store you’ll get bottled tap water (just not bottled locally), unless it’s some fancy brand like Vittel or Volvic. But those don’t come for free no matter where you’re at.

And yeah we don’t typically use ice in our drinks, unless you order cocktails. Agree it’s a bit odd to explicitly charge for it, but I guess if the restaurants pays for ice (usually they don’t make it on site), then I can see why they charge for it…

Why the heck would you need ‘filtered’ water? Tap water is epic in West-EU, the only need for bottles is so you can take it to places where there is no tap. If you live in Utrecht (NL) you get pure Bar-Le-Duc water from the tap!

Sidenote: Never been charged extra for Ice, I also thought icing a soda was cheaper then not for the seller.

Spoken by someone who rates water as the most boring drink on any menu.

Rarely drink bottled water, because the tap water is great where I grew up. I absolutely thought it was weird how much some people drank bottled water. Then I tried Edmonton (Canada) water.

Heck Nestle bottles the tap water from Hope, BC. They claim they filter it, and I’m sure they do, but the municipal water in Hope is great, and I’m sure their purification equipment don’t have to do much. Hope isn’t even the best municipal water in BC.

Good to hear that if I ever get around to visiting Utrecht I can try some competitive municipal water.

I recently ordered a medium soda for my dad at a McDonald’s and I was full of regret. It must have been like 32 oz. It was huge. Probably enough calories in the soda alone to be a meal.

The drink in my post is smaller than the smallest drink there.

Yes, I’m aware that I’m comparing McDonald’s to Burger King, but small/medium/large should be similar capacities between restaurant chains and not deceptive between the different sizes.

        Edited for clarity.

That drink size is the smaller than small size that they offer if you just ask for a cup of water.

Maybe the photo angle makes it look bigger, but seriously it’s about as small as a toddler’s sippy cup.

Yeah that’s a medium in Germany. What you call small is our large, and XL has been banned to curb sugar addiction. Drinks come in 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5 liters. (6.75, 10.1, 16.9 oz). XL used to be 1 liter (20 oz), and that was deemed too much.

This is the shrinkflation community, some of us remember when an actual adult size meal was $5, not this kids sized shit.

Hell, the drink cup is even smaller than their official small size.

Well thanks for the insult. I’ve never weighed in over 149 pounds (67.6 kilograms), well within a healthy weight range for my height and metabolism.

Edit: Also, not everyone eats 3 times a day, I surely don’t need to. I usually only eat once or twice a day, whenever I’m hungry.

Okay, so we’re the same age. This is still a lot of calories. And $1.99 would be more expensive today. You have to think in real terms.

Also, I remember the Happy meals, and no you wouldn’t. You would get a six piece chicken nugget with fries and a drink and no burger. Or a burger with fries and no chicken nuggets.

You only think you’re getting more. To call back a previous comment of yours,

The burger is mostly bread. The meat patty is waifer thin.

I honestly think there might be more meat in the 2 nuggets you lose than the patty. At most it’s an equivalent amount.

And that doesn’t even get into ingredients and how they have and will continue to switch to cheaper ingredients without lowering prices which skews any inflation adjustments further obfuscating any true comparison.

Yeah, I get you. But if you knew the particular employee and all the restaurants he worked at, you’d question all of their hiring practices.

It was only like 10 years ago that I dared trying Hardee’s again, because their former cook (that worked multiple restaurants) would literally hock and blow snot bubbles while talking to you…

Things like that totally make you wanna wait a decade or more before returning to the same location.

Side note, I’ve also had a truck stop demolished and eventually rebuilt by another company, because they had rats in their kitchen area and I reported it.

I would grab stuff way to often but its basically twice what it used to be and went from something I could do without tracking to something I need to budget for (partially also because necessities are more expensive puting the squeeze on it in two ways) and whelp. it aint worth budgeting for. we have actually been taking what we used to spend and buying a bit higher quality grocery items. It sucks losing the convenience but eating better is nice.

That meal contains 2 different animals, bread, cheese, fries, a sauce, and a drink? How can that only be $5?

Please don’t tell me you think this kiddie burger looks anywhere near as big as a Big Mac…

Fries + nuggets together probably cost more than the fries

        Drink is the same size

        Burger isn’t 1/3 of a big mac

        But sure

“When the dollar menu combo is $6 I will take that”

McDonald’s advertises their $5 meal deal nationally but Southern California only has it for $6. I wonder if Burger King does the same thing.

It rings in at $5.35 after 7% tax here. Still, the food is actually smaller than the old-school Happy Meals…

      Before or after tax? :p
Could be that they have it priced at $5 before in most and $5 after tax in other states

Before tax of course. Never seen a price with tax included before. Way too many different state/county/city tax differences for that to work well, at least in the US.

I hate to be that guy, but you’d really just be better off waiting, aka fasting, until get a chance to eat some real food. But never mind you only live once.
