https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/07/loss-of-popular-2fa-tool-puts-security-minded-grapheneos-in-a-paradox/ The article unfortunately leaves out most of the points we made in the thread. GrapheneOS supports hardware-based attestation and it's entirely possible for Google to allow it as part of the Play Integrity API. They choose to ban using GrapheneOS.

The post is in the link, the article with more background info is here (it cites the mastodon post): https://www.androidauthority.com/custom-roms-vs-google-3469378/

I originally saw the article on this post on [email protected] and went looking for links.

This is a great reason to support GOS with donations https://grapheneos.org/donate

Suing google for fair and open API access will not be a cheap prospect. I hope the current anti-trust litigation makes them less monopolistic

That is such a horrible format for this type of content. The content is great, don’t get me wrong, but having to break it up into individual one sentence posts is horrible.

They posted it from their own instance, too, so it’s not like they have to worry about character limits; they could just remove the limit on their own posts.

Microblogging is terrible, I can’t understand why it’s still the preferred format for these types of platforms.

That sounds like a fig leaf for Google to hide very anti-competitive behavior…
