The main things making electricity not seem so magical is that for some stupid reason they decided to focus on safety, standardization, efficiency, and educating people and using it for entertainment. They made it pretty cheap, often pretty safe, almost ubiquitous, and very fun.
Instead we could have had it be recklessly dangerous, completely wild designs that fit no standard components and have to be almost hand made inefficient designs for the purpose of flair, and lots of impressive threatening politicking against people who don’t understand wtf you just did.
