Hospitals are also paying ridiculous amounts for nurses through agencies because of the pay freeze.

Every decision Ford makes is to feed public money into private pockets.

That is after all the function of a colonialist state. Ford is just so much more (no pun intended) provincial about it.

What did Ford do with the $7 billion the Ontario government didn’t spend this year? He sure as fuck didn’t put it into healthcare or education.

He’s being fiscally conservative and saving the money for a time when we really need it: like when there is a megaproject his buddies can bid on!

When most citizens don’t even bother voting, it no surprise when the elected government doesn’t act in their interest. Most Ontarians showed Doug that they don’t really care what he does. Maybe next election more people will do their civic duty and participate in their democracy.

Even if voting for Horwath felt like voting for that woman from Parks and Rec, and even if voting for the Liberal guy felt like voting for a nameless extra from The Muppet Show, either would’ve been preferable to this guy who is actively dismantling our society.

Pardon my ignorance, I’m not knowledgeable in politics, but is there anything we can do beyond taking politicians’ word during election time? We can’t somehow vote against decisions being made after they are elected (or can we?). It seems like they can say whatever they want to get the vote, and then do something completely different in their own interest after that.

That’s a feature of the FPTP voting system we have. (https://www.cgpgrey.com/politics-in-the-animal-kingdom/)

Since it encourages people to vote for 1 of 2 major political parties, the wining party needs to get a majority to win and effectively becomes King for 4-5 years.

If we had “Mixed-Member Proportional Representation”, then multiple parties would have to join together to form a government after an election. Then if this coalition government did shit like Ford is doing, it would loose support from the other parties and stop being the government.

I forget if it’s mentioned in that video, but one of the issues with MMPR is that the party that wins isn’t incentivised on changing the system because they already won on FPTP.

I can’t help but wonder if the only real chance we have is to split the votes so badly that we have five parties each at over 10% of the seats. Both for changing the system as well as getting the leading parties off their asses and make changes that actually make the country better.

Thanks. The videos were very informative. How do we get such a change to happen?

Vote for candidates that will change the system. Trudeau did say that he would on his first win as PM. But he changed his mind

Just keep voting and stay informed. If you don’t vote, you get Doug Ford

Like MrD said, FPTP is the first problem. MMPR may turn out to be a problem too, but it’s a better problem. No system isn’t going to be a problem but some definitely have more problems than others.
