I never quite got that plot hole. Who got out all the ice cream? Hammond himself?
I get that the power went out, so it was “going to melt anyway”. But the support staff had all pretty much fled on the last boat for the mainland before the storm rolled in.
Doubtful Hammond would have pulled out 10 different tubs of ice cream and carried them all into the dining room, himself.
He wanted to splurge in the face of potential death. Seems normal to me. The odd part I find is how far away from himself he spaced them on the table.
The expense he was referring to was the Chilean sea bass, which roughly is priced at $30 USD per pound.
