      To be fair to Malcom X this predated Jeff Cooper’s 4 rules of firearm safety, and was the general trend of the period.

          Resting fingers on triggers was, like it or not, very common in the past. Only in the 1980s and going into the 1990s was there a concerted gun culture and military training culture change that made it something commonly actively called out.

      Idk about m1 carbines (just looked it up they don’t do the same) but m1 and m14 safetys were released inside the trigger guard
