I see this as a good movement. People will argue that Palestine and Pride are two separate things, and while that may be true, we historically persecuted groups need to stick together.
It’s why Native Lives Matter showed up at the BLM protests. They didn’t say “Oh well, that’s just some other group, not us” because that’s a self-destructive way of thinking.
And if that’s not enough, queer Palestinians are being murdered by Israel. “Well it’s not like Palestine is exactly LGBTQIA+ friendly.” OK, then that’s all the more reason they need our support! Imagine your life is hard already, you struggle to be accepted for being queer, and now someone is dropping bombs on you, starving you, deliberately trying to kill and maim you and your loved ones.
No Pride in Genocide. My word of the day is solidarity, and I will die on this hill.
Also even if, and that’s a big even if, they were all super homophobic and had no queers among them…
What kind of sociopath would think that it is remotely a) justified to bomb them into a pancake and b) the reason Israel is doing what it’s currently doing.
Don’t get me wrong, queerphobia is inexcusable and I’ve had my own fair share of harassment of different calibers, but I would never ever wish what is currently happening in Gaza upon the people who harassed me. I know it’s a cliche and boring, but be the better person.
