Just by checking https://lemmy.ml/communities one can see the most popular communities of lemmy.ml. The plan here is to list all the alternatives for those from other instances. One can also suggest alternatives to be added here and I update this living document.

Beehaw seems to make a fair bit of effort in providing communities for most common topics and providing content in a non-toxic and non-politically polarized environment. Would recommend alternatives in either of the two recommended instances.
These aren’t exactly alternatives, since I specifically checked that they don’t already exist elsewhere, but I set up a couple niche communities:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
Any activity in these so far is just me, but maybe it’ll get there.Thanks regardless!
There’s also now [email protected] and [email protected]
I’d be happy to take on a meme community or news or something like that.
How about I create a meme community here and make you its moderator?
That’s fine
Make a post in [email protected] and then I promote you.
we have a few fediverse ones here, let me find them.
https://lemmy.ca/c/fedizens
https://lemmy.ca/c/thefedizenenquirer
https://lemmy.ca/c/fediverselore
https://lemmy.ca/c/bestofthefediversecan create a generic fediverse one if needed?
Nah, those separate communities have specific purposes and are just fine.
there’s one over at https://lemmy.ml/c/fediverse
We’re trying to find/make some on smaller instance than lemmy.ml or lemmygrad
Anime --> [email protected]
Broken link? Doesn’t work anymore. If you’ll be replacing an alternative, I suggest not substituting it with [email protected] as that one’s owned by an infamous subreddit hoarder on Reddit.
Is https://heapoverflow.ml gone or just momentarily down? If gone it might be good to update this great posting 😁
There is of course the venerable [email protected], but I generally post in the generalist communities to help grow them.
I just started [email protected], the one sub from reddit I feel like I could run myself. Come join if you’re a fan of the game/games! There were more that I was active in, I’m going to be trying to be even more of a contributor than I was on reddit, but I’ll ramp up as I figure out lemmy.
@QuentinCallaghan For libre culture I found !libre
It doesn’t really seem active tho.
heapoverflow.ml seems to be down.
Gotta remove it.
/r/Reddit411 and /r/411 -> [email protected]
/r/wowthissubexists -> [email protected]
i wouldn’t recommend anything from mander.xyz, it’s a freezepeach instance
Why would a science / nature instance block? My assumption is it would be open to anyone if posts were on topic, and there were no dodgy posts. Moderation might need to be more on point.
C/monkey pox has been hit with some antivax action before
Ok gotcha
Just by looking at the instance’s posts, it doesn’t look like it. I however remember it becoming a spam haven at one point.
it federates indiscriminately, including with the far-right wolfballs and the Marxist-Leninist lemmygrad
I could speculate about this endlessly. Regardless, [email protected], what is your opinion regarding this?
