He has probably seen countless people starting to use linux and is pissed by the percieved popularity.

      No, not really?

In this case it’s a response to a pretty obnoxious comment. You could argue that the comment op is acting like an apple fan, ms fan or any kind of thing fan that enters a conversation.

It can’t be answered in this context, cause there is no context in the post.

wdym? or rather what are you referring to? (sry am a bit dense sometimes)

like as long as you are not the “basement-dwelling (arch) elitist” stereotype, advocating for free/libre software is pretty cool imo

(also did you just say Linux when referring to desktop? insert “actually what are you referring to as Linux is in fact GNU/Linux” copypasta here /j)

I’m a bit dense as well, so you’re among friends (not sure I fully get ur reply, tbh)

I was mostly piggybacking on your popular comment to poke fun at people that seem to take their choice of OS a bit too seriously. That “as well” at the end feels odd; it was meant more like the “too” at the end of “and I probably would’ve got away with it too.”

          • now I get what you mean lol

tho I still think that being passionate about the things you care about (be that technical or social justice) is something wonderful. As long as you don’t go down the path of elitism

I had someone tell me that I was doing exactly that this weekend when I wrote a forum post and feedback submit to the company I buy my keycaps from for a 1.5u Tux or Logo key option rather than the windows 10 logo they currently offer.

I figure they’ll offer at least their logo as that’d sell really well (glorious, look em up for why), but having someone reply that I needed to not make Linux my whole life was weird

Not sure it’s cope as much as being unable to accept that their attempted put down is having no effect. Bully is in their own head about their inability to get under someone’s skin.

      A raging douche.

          cope /kōp/

          intransitive verb

          1. To contend or strive, especially on even terms or with success.

            “coping with child-rearing and a full-time job.”

          2. To contend with difficulties and act to overcome them.

          3. To form a cope or arch; to bend or arch; to bow.

As a foreigner it’s really jarring seeing this verb adopting a new meaning of “failing to cope”. I’ve seen it many times, it’s definitely not you and not new, but it does make the English language just a tad more inaccessible.

          • it’s mostly just internet lingo. English is not my native language either and I sometimes have the opposite problem: I know/use the internet definition/meaning but not the “official” one lol

Urban Dictionary is your friend in such cases, that’s where I usually go for stuff like this

Spend more time around people under 25, while they’re around other people who are also under that age. I hear it a lot.

Edit: To be clear, I’m not even under 25. Just spend a lot of time with people who are. Makes you feel old when younger folks ‘code-switch’ and use different language choices with you…

one could call that an “oof moment” lol

but tbh I will probably feel the same when I have to talk with the “skibbidy toilet” generation (aka gen alpha) in the future
(I only recently found out what that even is 💀)

Im kinda an english native depending on definition but for a very long time i mainly used it on the internet so sometimes i use too many contractions and slang with people who are not as good with it which can lead to confusion.

Ultimately, both of those commenters are annoying. Saying “I use Arch btw” is a useless self-serving statement that provides no benefit or information to the audience. But engaging with that message in the manner displayed is also pointless and stupid, even if the statement is correct.
The saving grace for the “Linux user” commenter is that they are self aware about being annoying, judging by their last comment. So hopefully they were just being ironic. Or rage baiting.

    I use(d) Arch, btw.

Ohhhh I am sooo impressed! Have you also downloaded the classified instruction manual for Linux from Linus Torvald’s website, took a correspondence course in machine code, translated the manual, memorized it, and eaten it? Have you Danfg7215? Torvald?
